Lucky bamboo
Description
Dracaena sanderiana Despite its name, lucky bamboo is not a bamboo but a Dracaena sanderiana. Its stems are trained into spirals under directed light, then sold in bunches to stand in a clear vase. It grows in plain water, without compost. Light: bright and indirect. Direct sun yellows the stems. Watering: keep 5 to 8 cm of water in the vase and change it every 2 weeks. Use rainwater or water left to stand: chlorine and fluoride brown the tips. Care: a few drops of very dilute liquid fertiliser every 2 months is enough. Pets: toxic to cats and dogs like all Dracaena (saponins) — vomiting and drooling if eaten. The glass vase is also easy to knock over, so wedge it securely.
