Coloured cactus
Description
Cactus with tinted spines Cacti whose spines have been tinted bright pink, purple, red, orange, blue or fluorescent yellow. The dye is applied to the spines, not the plant, which then grows normally — new growth returns to its natural colour. Light: as much as possible; full sun behind glass is fine. Watering: every 3 weeks in summer, almost none from November to March. It is a cactus: too much water is the only real danger. Care: very free-draining compost, repot every 3 years wearing thick gloves. Pets: cacti are not toxic to cats and dogs, but the spines genuinely injure — nose, paw pads, tongue. In a pet shop we would rather say it plainly: keep it out of reach rather than on a coffee table.
