Carnilove in Tunisia: the range explained

Carnilove is produced by VAFO Praha, a Czech family company based near Prague. The same group also makes the Brit brand, well known in Tunisia, which you will also find in our aisle.

The manufacturer presents Carnilove as its most meat-rich range, inspired by the diet of wild carnivores.

According to the brand, all Carnilove recipes are grain-free, potato-free and free of artificial additives. Carbohydrates come from vegetables, legumes and fruit, and the recipes combine meat or fish with forest fruits and herbs.

Each recipe features one or two main proteins, which makes it easier to choose for a pet that does not tolerate a specific ingredient. Always read the full ingredient list on the bag of the recipe you pick.

In our dog aisle there are several Carnilove recipes in 1.5 kg bags:

• salmon and turkey, designed for large-breed puppies;
• salmon, duck and pheasant, lamb and wild boar, for adult dogs.

For a large-breed puppy, the large-breed puppy recipe is the only one suited to growth. For an adult, the choice depends mostly on which proteins your dog digests well. The availability of each recipe is shown live further down.

Carnilove dog snacks are small soft treats in several flavours: wild boar, duck, quail, salmon, trout, sardine or carp depending on deliveries. They work as rewards during training and break easily.

Like any treat, they should stay an extra: keep them to about 10 % of the day's intake at most, and take away a little kibble on days when you give a lot.

Not for every pet. A grain-free food can suit a dog or cat that digests some grains poorly, but it is not better as a rule. In dogs, the US FDA investigated from 2018 a possible link between some legume-rich diets and a heart disease, without establishing cause and effect so far.

The right choice is the food your pet digests well and that keeps it at a steady weight with a shiny coat. If there is a health problem, ask your vet.
